Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series: A Huracán is coming

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series (STS) was back at the beautiful Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this past weekend for two 50 minute races on Saturday and Sunday.  Laguna Seca was the site of the kickoff of the 2015 season, but more importantly the North American debut of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo car.  The Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo continues in the STS as well, but this weekend all eyes were the incoming Huracán to see if its race performance could match its visual performance.

The Huracán didn't disappoint as it held the top spot in both races.  On Saturday Richard Antinucci drove the No. 50 car, fielded by O’Gara Motorsport and representing the Beverly Hills dealership, to victory.  Sunday saw a surprise with Cedric Sbirrazzuoli, a rookie to STS, took the checkered flag representing Lamborghini Dallas with a .0436 second victory over Round 1 winner Antinucci.

Both the Huracáns and Gallardos provided the needed aural reverberation around the hills of Laguna Seca.  Most of the morning had been fairly quite on track after a brief warm-up by competitors in the TUDOR United Sports Car Series.  When the Lamborghini's stormed the track, no fan wasted the chance to hug the fence to watch and listen.  It wasn't just the sound that inspired.  With over half the race done you could start to notice cars reaching the edge of grip on the track having pushed their tires to the point of tapping out.  Drivers were well aware that they approached their last chance to make a pass, and the track side smell of hot brakes and boiling intercoolers.

In a sign that efforts in the STS may lead to greater motorsport participation, Lamborghini announced that they may compete in the last race of the TUDOR season at Petit Le Mans with the Huracán GT3.
