Remembering Bob Heathcote 5/27/64 - 7/24/22
We’re just a couple of guys from Sacramento who’ve been able to shoehorn ourselves into the vast fabric of automotive “journalism” and photography. We have a pretty healthy sense of who we are and who we aren’t. Many years ago we decided to take our personal Facebook pages and parlay them into what is now The Loud Pedal. We aren’t Road and Track or Car and Driver, but we are what we are. We are some modicum of natural ability (or just dumb luck) and a lot of good timing and an inability to take “no” for an answer.
For the better part of a decade, we’ve punched well above our weight because we have been in the presence of many amazing people. Bob Heathcote was one of these people. He was the official photographer of Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca and unfortunately passed away recently after a motorcycle accident.
We owe Bob a great debt of gratitude. He was always available for advice whether regarding photography, track logistics, or even pizza and burrito recommendations. He was always a smiling face and welcoming handshake for every early morning media training we ever attended. His abilities as a photographer were obvious and unparalleled, but for us, he was the perfect example of what a “pro” is. No flash, no braggadocio, no hubris…just a nose to the grindstone workhorse who enjoyed his position and was always there to nurture those in his wake.
Bob showed us all how to be photographers by his example and by his counsel. For this, we will always be grateful. We send our best thoughts to Bob’s family and friends.
