Challenge Your Weekend!

This weekend the North American start of the Ferrari Challenge begins at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (event details), and the introduction of the turbocharged Ferrari 488 Challenge car.  As we have covered before, the Ferrari Challenge is one of the best values you can get for your racing dollar.  Its also the start of the racing season for Laguna Seca which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

This year marks the 25th anniversary since the Ferrari Challenge series was announced in 1992.  Since then, hundreds of drivers have competed at some of the most historic race circuits around the world.  488 Challenge is the sixth car used in the one-make series that started with the 348 TB/TS used between 1993 and 1996.  Since then, Ferrari has turned each of its mid-engine V8 sports cars into Challenge competition cars, a tradition that continues with 488 GTB and 488 Challenge

The Ferrari Challenge is the longest-running one-marque series, featured in three different regions around the world - North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.  The event also includes a paddock of vintage Ferraris and the parking lot a great place to spot modern examples.  This is an amazing event for Ferrari lovers and even first time race attendees to get an up close example of what Laguna Seca has to offer.

Practice will take place on Friday starting at 9:00am with qualifying slated for Saturday at 11:20.  The first races of the 488 Challenge era will begin at 2:40pm on Saturday with additional qualifying and race action on Sunday starting at 10:45am and 2:05pm respectively.

The Ferrari Challenge weekend is more than a one make racing series.  Its also a premier gathering of Ferrari owners and enthusiast in California with a car corral that will rival anything most people will see in a lifetime.  Given that its also the 70th anniversary of Ferrari, the weekend looks to be a full throttle rush for the Ferrari faithful.  We can promise that based on our past adventures at this event you will stumble away from the weekend in shock at all the prancing horse has to offer.
